    E30 exhaust parts clear up

Ok, first off, im new to e30s, second, yes i searched. This is not a typical "what exhaust is best" bull crap.

So earlier today, i believe my catalytic converter died. Ive got this weird poofing when reved and power loss in high rpms. but anyway, the rest of my exhaust is in fairly good condition, no leaks and a newer muffler, my question is, is the exhaust on an e30 3 sections? Header, cat, cat-back? Or am i missing something, because all i can find is cat-back systems, and headers, And when i do find a cat delete pipe, it comes with the whole system, headers to tips. Does anyone sell or make just straight dual pipes from the headers to the axle? And even if i find one will it fit the stock flange?
If the only way is to go custom, is there a build with dimensions for one? I can weld, but my custom fab skills are still developing.

To be clear, i do NOT want a cat, my car did pass emissions, but they are not needed where i live and they are just expensive huncks of metal to me. Thanks for your time.

A lot of companies don't want to manufacture an aftermarket cat, nor a system with one. So your not missing anything. It's just the nature of the business.

I have yet to see any real aftermarket exhaust for the E30 that doesn't hook up to the factory cat. And I've never seen a test pipe that replaces the factory cat. So I don't think your missing anything there either.

Building the custom exhaust is really easy. Just get some straight pipe and a couple mandrel U bends. start placing the straight pieces, and get them all to line up. Something like this. My current setup.

So if im not mistaken, there IS three sections of exhaust pipes on a "stock" e30? But typically they only sell the header section and the cat-back section? So for the time being i could just custom make a test pipe, and later when i would get headers and such i could bolt them up? This is starting to make good sense, thanks

So no one sells just this portion without a cat?
