    Manifold studs

I am having 80% success with a bolt out, heat, and love. I dont have air. Right now my problem is two of the top 6 have rounded over with the bolt out and it no longer grips. Suggestions? These are really crusty bolts (252k miles on them.) I have not let the manifold flange get to cherry red yet.

This is the exhaust manifold on an m42/44 on the head side.

I have all new hardware so I just need the old bolt stud assembly OUT. I may fanagle vise grips tomorrow. I would like a viable solution before I start the bottom row.

I PB blasted these bitches for over a week twice a day because my car was on blocks and couldn't get an angle for the torch under there. I did it on my back using a socket extension and a U-joint. I took the whole of the rusted copper nuts and studs off so I ended up ordering new studs from blunt.

It was summer. It was hot. It wasn't fun.

Well I dont know what to do about the rounded ones. The one size lower bolt out doesn't fit and the one I was using doesn't grip. I hate old cars.

Ah I missed the rounded out part. A nut splitter won't work in such a small area unfortunately. I'm curious to see what other say.

You can try regular sockets that are to small, spray some penetrating oil or motor oil on em and hit em on with a hammer. Or craftsmen makes a funny looking socket that grabs like An easy-out. I'll try to find a pic. Those are the most viable without the use of heat. I'm not to familiar with the m42, but could you possibly get in there with a cut off tool? Then possibly split the nut, or just cut the stud off all togeather?
          Just some ideas..

Harbot freight makes a nice set stripped out bolt sockets. Ive had better luck with them then my craftsman set. Hammer the smallest possible one on if you can.

            Good luck!
