I have 3" pipe, magnaflow cat and 14" magnaflow muffler which also drones terribly. Did the dynamax make a difference?

I just ordered Vibrant's ultra-quiet resonator which looks more like a mini muffler than a resonator so I am really hoping the drone dies and overall decibels are lowered. I will report back if there is a significant improvement.

unfortunately haven't had a chance to do anything yet. I've been so busy with summer school and baby classes/nursery shopping etc with the pregnant wife.

my catalytic converter decided to puke its innards out after 600 some mile so now its even louder. UGH. I'm most likely going to throw a magnaflow muffler in its place. I had them put that section in as a bolt in section anyway so I guess I could unbolt it and take the section down to have a muffler welded in....hmmmm.

    Sorry I don't have a better answer yet = (

I have 3" exhaust and two mufflers, it's not loud at all.

Ive got one Simons and one small Walker 2,5" mufflers on mine and think the sound is perfect. Not to loud but deep and sounds strong.

When you are dealing with a straight thru muffler (glasspack) there is really only one thing that affect how much sound it reduces or absorbs. Volume (capacity) is what does the work on that style of muffler. If you can fit another muffler that is noticeably larger it will make a difference. If that is not quiet enough, you will need a baffled muffler of some sort.

My '89 325 has an aftermarket cat with no resonator and a stock rear muffler except i modified it to be straight through and glass packed. Essentially a large 2 in 2 out glasspack. With stock diameter perf tubes running straight through the muflfer it was as quiet as the original muffler!
I redid it with 2.5 in perf tubes through the muffler and now it makes a little sound, but very mellow and deeper at idle.

If you want QUIET but a nice tone, get a stock muffler from a newer car. I'm running a hyundai genesis 2.5" resonator/muffler in my exhaust paired to a magnaflow muffler. It's dead quiet on idle but it sounds awesome opened up. Lots of turbo E30 guys who can't quiet down their cars use stock car mufflers.

I was just perusing the Verocious Motorsport page and found these:

    and

Every Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator is constructed of 304 Stainless Steel for superior durability and polished for show quality looks. Vibrant resonators feature a "True Straight Through" perforated core, surrounded by premium multi-layer sound absorption materials to dampen noise levels without restricting exhaust flow. The Ultra Quiet Resonators feature a larger sound chamber, which provides better sound dampening than the standard bottle resonator, and eliminates the rifling noise common with 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder engines equipped with straight through performance exhaust systems.

I called them up and explained what I was looking for, what I wanted, etc. Their tech mentioned that they're essentially the exact same thing, same construction, etc. The muffler is simply bigger than the resonator and therefor absorbs more sound. I'll crawl under my car tomorrow, take some measurements and see how much room I've got.

Sweet. Post up with how it sounds. If you like it I'll be swapping mine out next week for sure.
