O2 sensor placement, does it matter?

I have a custom exhaust setup on my m30 swapped car and am having some issues with it running really rich, may be tune related, but also may be O2 sensor. My O2 sensor is placed right behind the tranny crossmember, is that to far back?
I also extended the wires to reach, another possible issue?

I am running a Miller WAR chip for engine management and set one tune so that it would not read from the O2 sensor, and the car still ran the same.

    Thanks!

That location for the O2 sensor should be fine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
