Custom exhaust.. I want it to sound like this

This is for an m50 car.

I do not need a cat legally so I will likely not run one. My buddy's eta sound similar to this and is a tolerable level. His setup is:

eta stock exhuast manifold ---> y pipe to 2.25 inch single (all the way back) ---> magnaflow cat ---> magnaflow standard size muffler

I am thinking for my car:

stock m50 exhaust manifolds ---> y pipe to 2.5 single ---> 25 inch or so glasspack ---> spintech 3000 muffler

Any thoughts? I like raspy exhaust, but I do not want anything too loud. Like I said my buddy's setup on his eta is the perfect loudness level for me.

Well this sound is definitely not from a spintech style muffler, I would guess more of a maganflow. How does one achieve the gurgling sound?

That is one sexy sounding car. Actually my spin tech did sound like that when i had a header back system with straight pipes to a spin tech 3000

I am at the point where I am going to order a spintech 2.5 in/out and take it down to the local shop and have them fab the pipe. Then I want to "try on" one of their maganflow 2.5 in/outs and the spintech (I will have the input pipe to the muffler swaged) and compare the sound.

I am very curious which setup will be raspier. However I believe the full custom setup I have in mind in the original post will replicate the car in the video.

Also, reading the video comments the guy says it is a racing airfilter and full stainless from front of car to back... maybe headers too... that explains the rasp (I wouldnt be surprised)

Got my magnaflow on.. it is not that loud at all. I dont know what its deal is

The exhaust dude basically did this

                  C - - 1.75 inch- - - - - - - - \
                  A ______1.75 inch merge) \
                  T - - 1.75 inch to 2.5 inch - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2.5 inch - - - - - magnaflow

Not sure why it doesnt sound like any youtube videos, etc. It is not very loud until maybe 4k rpms where there is some rasp.. bv redline though rasp is much less

Exhaust welds have a few leaks.. I will get that sorted out tomorrow.

i am not following your design... are you saying after the cat you did a 2 x 1.75 merge into 1 x 1.75 then transition into 2.5? then single 2.5 all the way to mag?

before the rev all i hear is leak and rattle... also do know that mag will get deeper after 200-500 miles of driving

Coming off the stock cat is two 1.75 inch pipes.

One pipe was converted to a single 2.5. The other pipe comes out 6 inches or so and merges into the 2.5 single.

What happened at the shop was I had paid for it mid way through the job and was so happy to hear it we brought the car down off the lift really quickly and then I left. I didnt give the guy but 30 seconds to hear it.

I went back today and made an appointment for next week to get the welds cleaned up, the guy was super chill about it.

Yup I figured out long tube headers is the distinctive rasp

heres a video of my car vs my buddies both revved to 4.5k

e34 - 2.5 single from cat back to a magnaflow universal
e30 - 2.25 mandrel bent header back with maganflow universal cat and muffler

Hard to tell from a vid of "true sound" but that sounds a lot like my swapped e30. Im running single 2 1/4, magnafail cat and a 14" resonator of unknown brand. No muffler.

Both cars sound really good. The E30 drones though a little.

The video is too short, and the e30 is gone now (friend drove it across country). I will make a driveby video of my 5er soon, as well as a muffler off sound video :D
