guys, what is the bolt size that conects the cat section to the manifold? and how difficult are they to get to and off. is it pretty straight forward?

Since you're in Jersey (near the ocean no less) yours are probably going to be rusty. I'd invest in a plumber's torch ($60 will get you a decent one at home depot). Heat each nut individually before you go to loosen it. Heat it till it glows red then go for it.

Without heat you risk breaking the studs off the manifold.

what exactly is the set up there? are there studs in the manifold that nuts secure to or is the cat section secured by bolts? looks like nuts but i just wana be sure.

I did my top end rebuild with the entire exhaust intact, just unbolted the manifolds from the head, not the best way but totally possible if necessary.

I recently dropped my trans so I could swap out bearings and when doing so I had to remove exhaust. I found out that 2 of the studs from manifold to downpipe were stripped. I tried getting them off while in the car but it wasn't happening. It took me 30 minutes to remove manifold, 1 hour to replace all 6 studs.
