Since you're in Jersey (near the ocean no less) yours are probably going to be rusty. I'd invest in a plumber's torch ($60 will get you a decent one at home depot). Heat each nut individually before you go to loosen it. Heat it till it glows red then go for it.
Without heat you risk breaking the studs off the manifold.Last edited by kway; 03-01-2013, 04:12 AM.'84 318i - Lapisblau/Schwarz (in cryosleep)

bin hitting them with pb blaster for 3 days now. i hope this goes smoothly cause next week it's a timing belt along with a front of engine reseal and tune up. that yearly income tax auto maintenance time.lolsigpicComment

I did my top end rebuild with the entire exhaust intact, just unbolted the manifolds from the head, not the best way but totally possible if necessary.1991 325i - "Scambles" The Daily Driven lightly modded.

I recently dropped my trans so I could swap out bearings and when doing so I had to remove exhaust. I found out that 2 of the studs from manifold to downpipe were stripped. I tried getting them off while in the car but it wasn't happening. It took me 30 minutes to remove manifold, 1 hour to replace all 6 studs.
