    Exhaust design

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a custom exhaust done up soon and I was wondering if I could get some opinions on the set up I have in mind.
I'm planning on going with all Vibrant Performance components since I'm a big fan of the way their exhausts sound on e30's.
It's a stock m20b25 with the stock exhaust manifolds. I'm planning on going from the manifolds to a Y pipe, to a Vibrant hi-flow cat, to a Vibrant Ultraquiet resonator, to a Vibrant twin tip Street Power muffler.
I'm still undecided on the size of the piping after the Y pipe. I was thinking 3" since it's going to be going from being a dual pipe exhaust to single, and I'm hoping 3" would help the engine breath a little better.
But at the same time, I'm wondering if 3" would be excessive? The car's my daily so I don't want it to be too loud. Also wondering if 3" would cause me to have too low exhaust pressure and end up with back pressure/torque decreases?
I'm open to any suggestions, let me know what you guys think

2.5 inch would be plenty large on a stock m20

Thanks! After finding a few clips of stock m20's on 2.5" singles I'm thinking you're right

I'm pretty happy with the sound of the Vibrant set up from what I've heard in sound clips, but I'm wondering if there's a way I could make it sound a bit more snarly (kind of like an aston). Has anybody on here messed around with x-pipes on e30's?
