    Why is my magnaglow muffler soo loud? (Stock 318iS M42)

    I just bought a 318iS with a "new" magnaflow muffler and tip. The problem is that it is way too loud for my taste, and it has a bad drone inside the car.
    The car has a new OE cat and no resonator.

    My question is;
    Does installing a resonator make a big difference in how loud the muffler will sound?

    If so, what resonator do you guys recommend?
    I don't want the car to be loud, as it is my commuter and I don't like loud cars.

      Magnaflow. There's your problem.

      Quiet an magnaflow do not exist in the same sentence. You can add resonators but all it will do is remove any kind of tone the engine may have had and make it sound monotonous and worse.

      You would be better off installing a small chambered muffler in the middle than a hot dog style resonator in my opinion

        Magnaflow is and isn't your problem.

        Your real problem is the chambered muffler. They all sound like SHIT and have a bad drone to them.

        I only have a high flow cat, flex pipe back to a vibrant muffler and its not that loud (its on a m20), My brother has the same setup with a resonator but 3" on his 4.8l Silverado and it sounds amazing, nice, quiet, and deep. If you put a resonator in front of it, it will quiet it down quite a bit.

          My setup is long headers > 2x 2" s bends to a Magnaflow Y cat > 2.5" SS to a Vibrant Resonator > 2.5 to a magnaflow 2.5" straight through SS muffler.

          It is loud but tolerable. It had drone up till 2k rpm. On highway, I turn about 2500-3000 rpm. The drone isn't as noticeable at higher RPM. I can post a video once my car is running well again.

          Had this video on my phone. Never made it over 3k but this is the noise from in car. I thought the resonator would help and was still surprised once it was all welded up at the noise.
