    Recommendations for CatBack 1987 325is

I have read all the threads comparing different possible catback exhausts... so no need to cut and paste them for me. I would appreciate your thoughts based on what I am looking for. I am an adult enthusiast with a 87 325is currently running a stock exhaust (Bosal). I am going to replace the muffler and am looking for a catback system that won't drone or wake the neighbors, but might sound a little better than the stock exhaust... particularly when revved. I use the car periodically for autocross and track days... but it is mainly a street car and is driven in a very suburban neighborhood. I have also listened to all the youtube videos for the systems listed below. I would appreciate your real world opinions if you have heard any of these exhausts, all of these exhausts, or have another option for me to think about. So far, I have narrowed down to these:

-supersprint - some people seem to say its too quiet or too close to stock for a lot of $$. My concern is it will just end up sounding like a stainless steel stock exhaust which is not exactly what I want, however, if it sounds better when revved (which some people say) and normal at idle then I am interested.

-magnaflow - seems to be improved sound quality and a lot of love for... my concern = is it too loud or is there drone.

-stromung - seems to be a lot of love for stromung, I like the way they sound based on videos = too loud for what I have described above.

    Many thanks for your input!

I should also mention that it goes without saying that I am open to saving some $$ and putting another OE exhaust on like a Bosal. Up until this point, I have only driven an E30 with a stock exhaust and I have been satisfied... I just figured now might be the time consider an upgrade.

I wouldnt go with any type of muffler that is chambered, they tend to have a bad drone and sound like shit over all. I have a vibrant (straight threw) muffler on my car and its pretty quite sitting there but if you hit the gas it has a great deep sound out of it. And if it is to loud you could always put a resonator before it and that will help alot also. I have long tube headers down to a Y-pipe to a high flow ebay cat back to the muffler and its all 2.5".

^^ Not my car but it is similar...

I've had a Stromung on my '87 325is for at least 5 years. It's definitely not "too loud" - unless you intend to drive at WOT all day. I've been very happy with it - it's certainly not something that would annoy any neighbors. Sounds good at idle, sounds even better when you get on it!

          Hey Geno,

Your input was exactly what I was looking for - so thanks! So far I am leaning towards the Stromung, so it is helpful to hear from folks with real world experience.

          Again, much thanks.
