Exhaust noise draws to much police attention a nice quiet exhaust equals less strain on occupants on rolling in cruises and to and fro where ever.

My plan is S52 headers (sitting in a box), S52 cats (in the mail), and a nice stainless exhaust...UUC or AA most likely.

Are there any bolt-on mufflers/rear section for an s50 conversion?

I like the idea of using the e36 m3 cat section, but figuring out the rest is a little more troublesome.

Someone here mentioned that the e36 has an ID of 40mm which is only about 1.6". That's not very big. Now I'm wondering if the Borla from my s14 would work - it's about 1.6" ID at it's narrowest section. The pipe that connects to the mid section is exactly 1.75" ID. Any thoughts if this might be too restrictive? It at least might serve well until I can figure something better out. I just fired my s50 up yesterday and I'm getting anxious to drive this thing!

        Here's my current exhaust plan: s52 headers -> s50 or s52 cat/midsection -> custom bent rear pipe -> e30 m3 Borla.

Nope, it should be fine. You guys who are running a mostly stock design setup have the right idea, I think. I know a guy who runs an e30 center section on his e36 and it's a good fit.

Is evryone using twin pipes all the way back?
I'm planning on installing headers and merging after the header to a single 2.5" pipe. I'm wondring if anyone tried it and if it works.
Right now I'm using the stock m50 cast headers connected to the stock E30 twin exhaust system.
I'm afried that the current configuration is strangeling the engine.

            Avner.

I know of a couple people using a single pipe from the headers back.

              What's the diameter of a stock e30 325i exhaust?

any further help on exhaust setups is appreciated (esspecially on how various components affect the final sound)

i have 2.5" SS mandrel single pipe, high flow cat and E36 M3 stock muff (very heavy)

I plan to soon get rid of the muff and put a Dynomax Turbo muff and Magnaflow long resonator

What do you guys think? I want it to be quite up to 3krpm and sporty sounding beyond 3krpm. I absolutely love the sound of stock 95 M3 with stromung (from understeer.com videos) and would really like to achieve similar sound.

I also wonder how tips affect the sound and what tips i should consider (i hear there are tips with mini resonators in them)

                  Thanks
                  Alex
