    removing heat shield...

Would it be a poor idea to remove mine - currently it is loose/rusty and makes some nasty noise when driving. Would I get a hot spot or anything?

(stock exhaust btw - but not for long I hope!)

i haven't had my heatshield on since i did my clutch/main seal, *jun 06* and i haven't experienced any problems so far...there are like 12 bolts or something holding it up, so its not difficult to remove at all

Yeah, I see how to take it off, I have it on stands in my garage - thought to myself "let's just take that POS off the car"! LOL.

        Yes, it's a poor idea.

Cannot buy a cover seperately bav tells me - so I would need to pay 409 for a new pipe. Ghey.

Oh, you're talking about the cover on the actual pipe? You can lose that.

Don't take off the piece above that that bolts to the floorpan of the car. That is important.
