    2.5" pipe to 2.25" Muffler Inlet

    I'll be putting on a custom exhaust for my 325i in the next few weeks. I'm planning to go with long tube headers that come to a 2.5" Y which feed into a single 2.5" pipe, 2.5" universal high flow cat. From there I was wondering what muffler to get. Would I defeat this set up if I used a 2.5" to 2.25" reducer to a 2.25" inlet muffler? Or should I go with a 2.5" inlet muffler?

      i'm wondering the same thing. it makes muffler choice easy, that's a given... but wondering if that minute restriction right before the muffler opens up will make any difference on a (mostly) stock m20.

        That's exactly what I was thinking. I know it must make some difference but do you think it makes a noticable difference?

          your smallest size in the system is essentially the max size for your whole exhaust. Why don't you just get a 2.5 coupler and call it a day? I'm sure the power level will not be effected much but why not do it right?

          It just seems like a waste to do all that other work, why not just get a 2.25" system...

            I run a 2.5 single...utilizing magnaflow cat and borla can.....all 2.5.


            IIRC there are several 2.5 mufflers....why go 2.25 if you dont need too....

            that being said I doubt it would make a big diff to end w/ 2.25

                Ill check my receipt......................but IIRC its the 14" turbo universaL.2.5 IN /OUT.

                its the 40653.......center /offset......





                There are so many brands, as you know. It depends on what brand , price point, size, etc that you prefer. I wanted on the loud side, well made and didnt mind spending up to 100.......but many brands can be had for 50 ish... check out Summit, Jegs, Performance peddler...

                  i just had a Y section made after the cats to a single 2.25 piping to a 40series flowmaster. sounds sick


                  o yea, never mind my signature, i don't drive an es anymore, i now drive the same color but a IS
                  88 325is (a work in progress)

                  new/old black interior
                  bilstien + eibachs
                  IE billet aluminum rear strut mount with urethane bushings
                  custom exhaust with flowmaster
                  cone filter with heat shield
                  z3 shifter
                  eclipse reciever with mb quarts components
                  e28 mtech 1 spoiler

                  87 535is
                  custom exhaust with cheapo muffler (PO)
                  bilstien w. stock springs
                  bavauto 8mm plug wires

                      is somers upstate? i'm on long island. about 30 min from the city, around 44 of the LIE
