    Magnaflow "direct fit" Cat

So... I was trying to take the cheap route and get the $250 cat instead of the $400 oem replcaments and this is what I got.. Has anyone run into this? I am 99% sure that both flanges need to be flared with a two bolt flange to run the stock rear muffler. I called magnaflow directly and they said it was normal and that is the way it is supposed to be.

What kinda car? Looks like an eta cat.

Since you have an "I" Unless that cat was totally trashed. You should have bought a $50 high flow cat sold the stock cat on ebay ~$200 and spent $400 on a custom 2.5 in exhaust

Too bad you already bought the replacement tho

        This is the car:
Its an 87 with dual inlet/outlet exhaust all the way back. The cat came with a front pipe section that makes the single inlet on the cat work. but my problem is that one of the dual outlets is not flanged or flared. I called magnaflow and they said that is the way its made. wtf?

Don't really have an answer for you. When I bought my 90 325i. It had a aftermaket cat which is too loud for my taste. I removed it and put back the stock one. Attached is the pic of it. I believe my 90' have the same set up as yours. the previous owner paid $450.00 for it. I believed is from DEC.
Hoped the pics will able to give you some refference.

I've dealt with one of those, the side in question should have come with the flange, and a metal washer/spacer and a rubber oring, the catback pipe slips into that side then you line up the other one and bolt it together. You might have to either buy those parts or reuse your old ones, the rubber/cork is probably trashed.
