So I've started to develop a noise under the hood. Someone who heard it said right away it sounds like an exhaust leak. It starts as soon as I start the vehilce but is most audible when the rev's are dropping. It goes away when it warms up but comes back very quickly (2-3 minutes) when it's sat which leads me to believe the only thing that cools down that quicker are headers and exhaust so...how do I diagnose where it would be leaking?

One way I've found leaks it holding my hand over the supposed area of the leak.
Of course, the engine must be cold for this, and cannot be running longer than a minute. The headers are hot within a minute of running, so you gotta work fast.
You can listen underneath the hood - exhaust leaks have a very distinct sound. I have a few on the underside of my car, and can feel them with my hand.- Sean Hayes -

Found the leak was underneath the flexible connector where my exhaust meets the headers. Gonna take it in this week to have it repaired. Sounds kinda cool when you drive fast though, like a BOV when you shift

Seafoam is the best way to find all your exhaust leaks. Suck some into a vacuum hose connected to your intake and white smoke will pour from all your exhaust leaks.Comment

Is it possible to replace the flexible joints between your manifold and cat instead of the entire cat? My exhaust was done only a few years ago so replacing the cat seems kind of redundant.Comment
