Any audio clips of IE/Ebay exhausts?

Most of them aren't rebuildable but what has happened (as you already may know) is that the packing has blown/worn out of the muffler. All straight through type mufflers have packing that wears out, chambered mufflers however like the OEM uses dont use any. If it's rebuildable, you can buy the packing at any motorcycle shop. If not, you gotta buy a new muffler. -
as promised, sound clips!
it's really really quiet! pretty much stock sounding. mine is mated with a s52 with stock 95 midpipes. I really hope it becomes a bit louder. no droning whatsoever in the car at any rpms. can barely hear anything.
car in neutral revving it up to about 4k rpms
run down the block, I think what you mostly hear is engine noise

I have about 30k miles on mine (IE) and it has gotten louder. Not as loud as some sytems but definitely noticable. No freeway drone though.Leave a comment:

i was confused also, i thought you had the IE/ebay one luke. not talking about the same thing, probably not even the same manufacturer.Leave a comment:

Maybe I'm the only one, but It seemed as though you were claiming to have the IE exhaust and dislike it. Other people's responses seemed to indicate the same thought I had. Sorry for the confusion. Continue on.Leave a comment:

What you are describing is "frequency", not "amplitude"...so your understanding is incorrect, sir.Well we are discussing a specific exhaust. Your exhaust may be similar, but is not the same. I don't believe IE makes or sells a single inlet exhaust, so yours is neither an IE or IE copy. Lots of exhausts look the same, but the internals are different. And a single pipe makes a lot of db difference due to the firing order of the M20. The engine alternates pipes used through firing order so the air being pushed through is in pulses. This is done to make the I6 quieter. When you combine the pulses into one pipe it produces a much quicker pulse rate, therefore pushing the air out quicker and making the exhaust louder. There are numerous differences between your setup and the "stock" IE/IE copy being discussed.
Single or dual will make hardly any difference in volume, but quite a difference in tone. Single exhausts are deeper sounding, assuming roughly the same surface area
Dual 1.75" vs. single 2.5" are roughly equivalent in effective surface area.
And "we" were discussing this exhaust, and my comments are a result of looking to replace mine, understand? This whole thing started with me bitching about how loud mine is and wondering if this was quieter.Leave a comment:

Did I ever say mine was the same copy?
No, I didn't.
Mine is ebay, the same size and shape. The difference in piping isn't gonna make much difference, and certainly not gonna be 10 to 15 db difference...I think mine is just shot.Leave a comment:

If your muffler is a single inlet, I don't know how It can be an IE/IE copy. Maybe I missed something. . . :shrug:Leave a comment:

Uuuum, yes.So your exhaust goes from dual pipes from headers, merge at cat, and then separate to dual pipe into exhaust?
If that is so, the merger mid way through will add to the loudness of the exhaust - as will the "free flow" cat since it has a smaller body and less filtering than stock.
Except the muffler is single 2.5" inlet
And yes, you are right, the smaller body cat makes it louder, plus will resonate at a higher frequency.Leave a comment:
