How to quiet down/derasp my exhaust

I am running a y-pipe form the headers to a single 2.25 pipe to a Magnaflow 14815 muffler on my '90 325i, the cat has been removed. Car sounds good except too much rasp and a little loud. Can I have a resonator installed to kill some noise and possibly some rasp? I have an autox upcoming and would hate to be disqualified for noise pollution.

Resonator will do it, go to your local muffler shop or search on ebay for "2.25 universal resonator" or "2 1/4 universal resonator" and you will get some cheap stainless options.
