New Exhaust time. Stock catback piping or up it to 2.25?

I've decided I want to upgrade my exhaust a bit. Nothing extreme since my engine's basically stock with the exception of 19lb. injectors and a Mark D. chip.

I just ordered a Magnaflow dual in dual out 2.25 muffler and I'm debating on JUST putting the muffler on or upping the catback piping to 2.25.

I don't want it to get annoyingly loud. I just want it to sound throatier and deeper. Gaining a couple horsies and some torque wouldn't hurt either.

    So, stock piping or 2.25?

i was just looking at magnaflow's dual in/out mufflers. im pretty annoyed they dont have any at 2", that would be the ideal size for our engines.

Yeah, but 2" is pretty small even for a 4 cyl. They're an aftermarket company. I don't think their main aim is OEM-style replacements.

well dual 2" is not that small at all, it has the effective area of a single 2.83" pipe. however, dual pipes suffer from increased friction, so it's probably more like 2.25-2.5" single pipe.

i mostly wanted 2" since stahl headers end in two 2" pipes after the collector.

That's why I wanted to find out if 2.25" catback piping is too much. Anyone?

Pick one of these out and use two. It will be about $20 more than the dual in/out but thats not to big a deal. I think that is what I'm going to do but probably with 2.25" but you can get these with a 22" long case (quieter) where the dual in/out is only 14" (louder).

What do you mean by "too much"?

two mufflers might be a good idea, thanks.

hey dandingo, noticed you're selling the magnaflow... what are you gonna go with finally?

Hey quibo, actually I think I'm gonna keep it. I have problems when it comes to upgrading things on my cars. I want it to be EXACTLY what's in my mind and I obsess about it until I finally do it. Well, I'm just gonna do it. 2.25 catback piping into the Magnaflow. If I don't like it I can always have them throw the OEM catback back on and sell this setup but for now I'm going for it.

I'm gonna ask my muffler guy if he's thinks it'll be too loud before I do it because I really trust his opinion. He's done all of my hot rods and knows exactly what it'll sound like before it even goes on. I'll update it with a video clip once it's done, which will hopefully be today.

I just posted this up in the other forum. It might help give you an idea of what size tubing you want to use.
