Quiet Performance Exhaust: Does it exist?

I have a stock '90 325i that I'd like to put a more quiet exhaust on, but without sacrificing power. I looked around this forum and a couple of other forums, listened to sound clips, read about custom setups, etc and now I just have way too much info to make any kind of conclusion. I live in California so I can't do away with the cat (not that I'd want to even if it was an option). I am also planning an s52 swap in about a year. Right now, I really just want to get rid of the resonance that occurs at certain RPM's and to attract less attention when I'm accelerating from a stop.

Thanks in advance for any input you guys can provide!

+1 Stock mufflers are super quiet, that's why you take a screw driver to them, to help them purr, lol

Have you looked at the FlowTech Warlock? It is basically a quiet performance muffler that has a plate you can remove to make it a straight-through exhaust. Here is a link to more info.

Thanks for the replies, guys. My stock exhaust does indeed have a leak or two. While I actually kind of like the sound of it now, it's really too loud and I'm sure if I heard what it was supposed to sound like, I'd be a bit disgusted at how loud it actually is.

I'll definitely give Supersprint some serious consideration. Anyone have input on Magnaflow? I read about and saw some clips with Magnaflow exhaust components and they sounded pretty nice. It looks like Magnaflow will soon have a cat back system for our cars. It's tough listening to clips and trying to determine how "loud" a certain exhaust setup really is with all of the varying recording equipment, distance from the mic, unknown engine (6 or 4?), etc. I had a Jetex on my mk2 GTI which I loved, but it was overpriced for what it was and it looks like Jetex only offers aluminized exhaust stuff for the E30, which sucks ballz.

I suggest you just take your hearing aids out if the stock exhaust w/ a few holes is too loud. Your only hope is to convert your car to fully electric instead of an s52.

Fully electric? Why didn't I think of that?!? Screw the s52. Anyone have a Prius donor?

All kidding aside, I know it's not going to be silent. I just don't want drone, or the annoying resonance. I do want an exhaust that plays second fiddle to the sound of the engine. I gather that supersprint does that effectively and just want to see if there are any other good candidates out there.

The OE exhaust systems (I mean OE not cheap reproductions) are really damn quiet and sacrifice very little performance if any.

The Bavarian engineers (neurotic as hell but not stupid) didn't screw that one up at all.
