Turbo on standard Motronic

We are tuning this particular car with a blow-through m30 AFM.Leave a comment:

Motronic can do what M20 can take. Porsche 911 has the same motronic system with flap AFM and makes 300hp. With a use of M30 AFM on the suction side of the turbo I think motronic can be tuned for some serious boost.
As for other vendor's expensive motronic tunes, maybe you can back me up. They don't do much when they tune, they bump the timing up, bump the fuel maps just a bit, raise rev limit and thats all, they don't dig into code as I did.Leave a comment:

We have a slew of injectors at my shop. I am currently running Chevy Trailblazer injectors in my N/A 2.7i that are rated 27lb/hr at 62psi which puts them at 22.4lb/hr with my 3bar fuel pressure regulator.to answer your question about finding 30# injectors: bosch mustang injectors will fit and you can find them pretty cheap because mustang guys are always going bigger. i just bought 8 30# orange tops for $150. so hopefully you can find someone who will ship internationally
im doing a low budget turbo build myself on my '89 325ix. i have a low cr stroker engine w/ stock internals, 30# injectors, metric blue head studs, stage 3 clutch, gt-35 rep. turbo (till i can get something precision) and 3" exhaust. but i still need to get the WAR chip. im not nearly done and im at already about $3000 deep including the engine.
might have some build pics up soon
i wish you luck!
Hey there! I am familiar with you from the ECU forum and have read some of your posts here and a few other forums.
If you wrote the xdf that we have been using since 09 then yes we are :)
We just got a JimStim from DIYautotune and plan on going further into the code. Thanks for opening up the doors for the DIY-er on the Motronic stuff, so many people have been keeping the a guarded secret and for no reason, really. The GM OBDI stuff isn't like that at all, and becuse it's so shared the ECU's now can read 3bar MAP sensors, have wideband capabilities, can do electronic boost control etc. If the BMW crowd had done the same thing, perhaps not everyone would be jumping on the MegaSquirt bandwagon so quickly.
I tried your MAF conversion, but not sure how you were doing it, when we tried it, the MAF would max at 8psi and ~4krpm under load.Leave a comment:

Audible pinging, and it's already too late.
We have the local car up to 11psi on 24# injectors and it's starting to get in the low 14's at 8-9psi - injectors are going static so we will be putting in 35# and changing the WG spring (supposed to be 7psi, let off at 11psi due to lean conditions).
We are running approx 20 degrees of timing at full tilt, blow-through m30 AFM (unmolested/not clocked) and our custom chip with the 24lb/hr.
24's are safe to about 7-8psi on a stock boosted m20b25.Leave a comment:

Thanks for that lad, thats what i had in my head but best to ask people who know. Definately have to get a wide band to keep an eye on things.Leave a comment:

M30 MAF. Does the spring need adjusting as when you put one onto a NA E30 and what direction, more tension i'd imagine but how much?
Keep the standard head gasket but change the head bolts.
Your supposed to tune it with a wideband 02 sensor. I'd say just tune it for idle cause as soon as it hits boost it will be pegged open.
I also seen somebody say that the M30 TB would be no help but i had planned on making a new inlet manifold to suit the M30, like the JDM units on a Nissan RB26. Surely this would help abit?
With as little boost as your planning on running it won't make a noticable difference. You'll be better gains with a bigger downpipe and gasket matched ports.
I have a Evolve chip here and got it read and it seems to have increased fueling but retarded timing so i'm wondering would this do to try at say 0.5bar?
Toss it in. If you don't ping your good. But your going to need a wideband to make sure your not lean.Leave a comment:

Thanks for all the input guys, only getting back to the turbo E30 idea now after buying a french piece of scrap that started falling apart a week after i got it. Its just about usable now until tomorrow lol.
So, the plan is for pure cheapo, E34 525td manifold, T3/4 sized turbo, 24lb injectors and M30 MAF. Does the spring need adjusting as when you put one onto a NA E30 and what direction, more tension i'd imagine but how much?

As said before, this thing won't be for mad power just for drifting so the turbo is mearly for abit more tyre shreading ability. The main problem is time i have, money i don't lolLast edited by BONNARSKI; 02-21-2011, 11:07 AM.Leave a comment:

We aren't using an FMU, we are tuning the injector pulse and timing through the Motronic.Leave a comment:

My 2.7i was running stock Motronic with 24lb injectors, Vortech FMU, and M30 AFM. Ran perfectly. Could easily be driven like any other stock E30 or sent to r3v limiter with no issue. Going to keep it this way when I put it back together with only minor changes.Leave a comment:

This has been a great read. I keep pondering the idea of turboing my 2.7i and this thread has been great.Leave a comment:

all u need its the wright guys man... FORCEDFIREBERD tuned my m20 and its working good.. just need to get the m30 air flow meter and see what happens..
as far as i kno they were boosting 21psi using motronic ecu.Leave a comment:
