Well, I bought #42 injectors that were on a turbo e30 and have been reman.... with new rings; therefore covered in that area. As far as being on the edge at 12pounds by not o-ringin i think I will be fine considering i have an M20 with 59k and some change on it. Im replacing the HG with stock of course and raceware studs. Ill i need to get it started is EMS looking at MSII v3 kit on DIYauto not sure yet though. Other than that thanks for the info... Since I will be going with MS i think might up the anty to 14 pounds still debating. M20s are built like a bull and with a good tune will handle. -

I agree. It seems like right around 1 bar is about what the factory HG with no o-rings will take, provided the tune is decent. Obviously a bad tune will cause things to go south. Its probably not the norm (cause most people don't know how to properly tune) but therw are a few people on e30tech who were running 18lbs of boost with metric blues and a goetze head gasket for over a year with no issues. They eventually could not help themselves and popped the headgasket around 21psi. But i would not try to run anything over 10psi on a 20+ year old head gasket. I've seen turbo setups that were proven to work for over a year get sold and installed on another car and blow the gasket in 1 day at 8psi. When your dealing with such an old motor there are too many variables from engine to engine to assume that if it worked for someone else it will work for you.Leave a comment:

at 12psi you're not on the edge of what the stock head gasket will take with good head bolts/studs.Leave a comment:

point taken on the injectors, it was just a few people I saw that couldn't get it to work.
I don't think there's a "magic" limit on what the stock gasket can take though. 12psi of what? cold, dense air? hot, detonation causing air? there's so many factors.
somebody in europe just put over 600whp down on a stock M20 with just a cam. So it seems there's lots you can do with stock parts. :)Leave a comment:

Does anyone know about the VEMS stand alone system, and if its any good? I was looking at the DIYautotune, just wanted to do a lot of research before choosing. I want to know if VEMS is easier to tune or if there the same tunning wise, and just what would be the better rout?
Also when in the process of tunning i want to try and do it myself, and so does it matter if the car is under a load while tunning? eventually I am going to dyno it but just thought i would see what i could do. I know a lasting turbo M20 is all about the tune so that is my focus. As far as stand alone i have a good amount of funds, want the best bang for the buck but dont wanna be robbed either.
Thanks for any info
Back to your questions I am going to sound very R3V here but anyways. These questions can be answered if you just look and read. I would advise reading the Mega squirt Mega Manual although you may not be using MS there is a section on tuning which will answer all your questions and help you understand standalone systems.
I only say this because these questions are basic knowledge anyone tuning a car should know, which you apparently don't. So please read the manual it will help you understand tuning and how to get the best results.
Also it helps when you talk to a tuner so they know what you want and know that they can't screw you around because you will know what is going on.
Good luck.Leave a comment:

Thanks,
I read so much stuff about how misinformed people are about what the stock motronic box can and can't do, it really cracks me up!Leave a comment:

Barrie is right. 42# injectors are fine on motronic 1.3. You need to have the proper scaling for both fuel and air flow for it to work perfect.Leave a comment:

You can run up to 90LB Injectors and have full stable control if you hit the correct maps... I run 60LB injectors on my M42 turbo using the stock motronic, tuned of-course. I have also done 75LB injector tunes without any issues

before we get too far, please define that. At 12 psi, you're right on the edge of what the stock head gasket will take with good head bolts/studs. It would probably be best to look into o-ringing. As for an EMS, everyone has their own opinion on what's best. MS is almost certainly the best bang for the buck and it's also a very capable EMS. I run it and am happy, but you need to do a LOT of reading so that you know what you're doing. I feel like a large portion of the complaints against MS are mostly from people who got in over their head.So if i run 12lbs with 42lb injectors and a walbro 255 in tank fuel pump that would get the job done? Would i need the walbro pump or can i use OEM pump? I heard the OEM can handle round 350 to 400 HP from maxamillion motorsports, but he has been rong on a lot of shit so far. So i dont deal with him anymore! Its funny because he told me that i could only boost 8lbs with a thicker headgasket, Which is shitty because once i started reading i found you could boost the shit out of an m20 with stock headgasket, only with a good tune which deff.. requires MS or VEMS.
It just goes to show people who think they know just beacause they run a german import shop dont have a clue.
Cant wait till she running wish i could post picks, but i running no charge on a phone line slow as shit.Leave a comment:

Hmm. Azael's turbo car is running 55lb injectors with a custom maf setup.Leave a comment:

That's not my understanding. Guys have tried 42# injectors, even with direct control over the ECU, they max out the correction factors and it still runs rich.Leave a comment:
