I should be having a couple tiny turbos from an '03 Volvo XC90 T6 fall into my lap within the next week or 2. I was wondering if, in my case, 2-cylinders would be able to power the super tiny snail. I know it's not a very efficient idea since the exhaust pulses will be far apart, but I think the lowly m10 might overpower one of the micro turbos by itself. The idea in my head is to have a simple twin turbo setup, no sequential. I have been looking for specs on them, and sadly, can't find anything. From what I understand Volvo uses low compression, low boost turbos. I'll take pictures of the turbos for size comparison (as soon as they are pulled), but off the top of my head, about the size of a hockey puck. The turbos will be free, so I want to see if I can make them work. Unique is cool, but not what I'm aiming for. I have very modest goals of about 150whp, but would like room to grow. I already have a set of 32lb/hr injectors from a different XC90 T6. Plan to get MS, and do a Ford EDIS conversion before I start any fab IF these will work. Any insight from you Turbo Guru's would be awesome.

rule #1) if you want more efficient power and less bullshit go with 1 turbo.
rule #1) every rule is rule number 1.
Those turbos are about the size of a k03 if I recall correctly. I think they are the TD04HL-09b, but I'm not 100% sure (I daily a S70 and I'm on volvospeed) They might be right for 2 cyls but really you want to run 2 downpipes, mate intercooler hoses and run more oil/coolant lines?
your injectors are good start, I'm running 30lb/hr and I am at 55% duty cycle at 6200 with the stock motor.
Even for 150whp you should start with something properly sized -- T25 or TD04 15G or 16T would be a good start. I don't think that in a 'practical' sense this is right for your turbo build. Go start looking at flow maps and how you want to go about making power. If mid range is the goal it might be a bit different from a track build.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige

Just did MORE searching, and found out which turbos the XC90 T6 runs. Looks to be the TD03-08G. Even smaller than what you had thought. Still can't find any specs on them though. Here is a picture borrowed from the poi on TurboBricks. The one in question...the cute one on the right

I'm sure I could sell them to someone wanting to boost their bike ;) Or...just make a project out of it with my buddies pumped up Raptor 660. May have a line on an old AirResearch turbo...for sure won't work for my applications, seeing how it's about the size of a 15lb frozen turkey. But...someone might want to trade something smaller for it, which would work perfect if I can pick it up for next to nothing, or better yet, for nothing. Pretty sure it came out of an old motorhome, or freighliner or something.Last edited by Hey_You; 08-29-2011, 07:20 PM.

I think one of these turbos would be good for the M10
For what it's worth, that was on a 2.3L from the factory, so pretty proper size for a 1.8L.
http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46634 this guy used a 13T, which is just slightly smaller than the 15G. it's used in the light pressure GLT models from 97-00. They ran 6-7psi from the factory, vs 10-12psi on the 15G/16T turbos.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige

Get a Subaru td04 from wrx or vf39 from sti. Those guys are setup nice for 4 cyl small displacement, very common and can be gotten almost new - modern stuff vs Volvo- downpipe you can buy very easily and modify for your chassisOBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

Well, plans for boost have been halted, as of Sunday, my freshly rebuilt head got wrecked and so did my pistons. Still don't know why the intake valves all smashed into the pistons, but they did. I plan on getting another car, but will most likely rebuild the m10 (with some goodies) down the road as finances allow. Since it will be a side project, I can take my time with it, and do it right. By the time I'm done, I'm hoping for 300whp+. I know most (well...all) of you will tell me it's not worth the time/money to invest in the m10, but it's my choice, and it will be a learning experience. Worst case for when I'm done...find a 2002 shell to slap it into :P
