    Wastegate help! big confusion

    Hi,

I'm about buying 38mm Turbosmart wastegate

I'm really wondering if that 38mm will be small for my set up?

    and how it's performance?

    I have an M20b25
    gt35 turbo
    42# injectors
I'm giong to run 15-18 psi

It has two springs inside (7psi each) = 14psi

Also planning to use a manual boost controller

    Any help?

Wastegates = Bigger the Wastegate, the less boost they can handle, so the 38mm should suite your needs nicely

I was using a Tial 38mm on my Gli with a GT3071r at 20 psi. Should work fine for your setup.

a big gate on a small turbo will result in boost falling off when the gate is opened,
a small gate on a huge turbo with big boost will result in boost creeping
a small gate on a small turbo is good
a small gate on a turbo running small to moderate boost is good
a big gate on a huge turbo running huge boost is good.

        hope that helps.

I decided to go with 38mm

another quick question is which one is better? Tial/Turbosmart?

            lol wut?

It's highly dependent on your manifold and the w/g placement. I would tend to think that 38mm is a little small for a gt35.

Some misinformation up in this bitch.

Wastegates are for gasses that are dumped out because your turbo isn't using them. Your turbo doesn't know when to stop spooling so the wastegate opens when it sees the psi you want to run.
Low psi = a lot of gasses you turbo didn't use = need big gate to release.
High psi = turbo is using most of the gasses = gate doesn't need to be too big for gas dumping.

Yes the turbo size matters, but that is the general concept. Your 38mm is fine for what you want to run.

I'm planning to run above 1 bar of boost and my wg spring is set at 1 bar

can I do this without the boost controller?

If you want more boost then the spring pressure is set at then you need a boost controller or different springs to increase the pressure.

I also have the turbosmart wastegate and it works great but the turbo smart boost controller is really lame... It's a bleeder style and boost spikes horribly I had to remove it after one drive, at 7 psi setting it was spiking to 12psi.... GO with something like a hallman pro RX they hold rock solid and are easier to adjust.
