    Another Turbo advice thread

I know there are a lot of these threads, either I suck at using the search function or the info I am looking for isn't there.

Anyways, I have been reading up on what it takes to turbo an M20 for the last year or so. Researching parts and getting all of my ducks in a row before I tackle this project. (I don't like to half-ass things or scramble for parts, etc.)

I acquired an AiResearch t3/t4 I believe. Only problem is, the lack of part numbers is making it hard to find any info on it to make sure I get the right rebuild kit and compressor maps, etc. So i'm hoping R3v can help me out.

What I know about the turbo:
    .60 compressor side
    a/r.48 turbine side
    t3 flange
    thats about it..

Also, anybody have any experience with this turbo on a M20 thats stock with ARP's and MLS hg. Is it too small? I know it will spool quick (which is what I want). I'm only looking at running 8-10lbs of boost. I've heard of a couple VR6 guys running a similar sized turbo and having success. Anyways, thanks in advance for any help.. Here are some pics of said turbo:

This will spool very fast on a m20, I'd say around 3k if not sooner. You'll loose a little bit of power up top. As far as rebuilding, does the turbo have much shaft play? If your looking to run about 8 - 10 lbs, you can do this on a stock motor and be fine just have to tune it right. but 8 -10 lbs, your gonna need a decent wastegate also, because this turbo will creep if you don't have a good wastegate.

That thing is a dinosaur. If it needs to be rebuilt i'd just sell it and buy a used holset.

Don't know about this turbo but I'd say that will spool very fast before 3000rpm maybe!

and you will not feel the power on high rpm especially after the 3rd gear

Thanks for the replies.. There is a wee bit of shaft play. I'll probably just save it for a sand rail i'm going to start building this summer or my bug. Sourced a Holset hx-35 from a buddy. Thanks for the help

itll be gernal bearing. so itll naturally have some play. as long as the impellers dont touch the housings your good to go. the bearings swell the tinniest bit with the oil and heat. and the oil acts as a cusion, as well as the force of the impellers spinning help to keep it all in the centre.
