eBay turbos

A lot of the ebay stuff is decent, you just have to know what to look for. I currently don't have $1k to spend on a Garret, so I was going to go the eBay route and buy a turbo off of ebay. I have used eBay turbos in the past with no issues. It has come down to these 2:

I already have megasquirt PnP from whodwho and 42lb injectors. I am looking to run 12lbs - 1 bar of boost. I know I will probably want more boost later, but for now I think that is plenty.

Help me decide r3v.

have fun with that... My suggestion is to buy a used, known working NAMEBRAND turbo. A holset HX35 will do exactly what you're looking for and it's inside your price range. You can also look for a cheap used turbo in a need of a rebuild. If, for whatever insane reason, you decide to go with an ebay unit, GET IT BALANCED before putting it on the car.

I haven't had any luck finding an HX35 in my price range. Where do you guys look for them? I would love to get an HX35!

Werd. Nothing like a compressor wheel shaking itself apart and taking your valvetrain with it.

try craigslist? I bought mine locally from Yoshi with a fresh rebuild for $350.

:edit: I should mention they can be found for about $50 at junkyards if you're really lucky. I hunt for them every time I'm there and always turn up empty handed :( I scored a saab turbo though and also found a nice turbo on a MkIII supra that looks like it would have worked well.
