    turbo rebuild

I've got an old turbo from my RX-7. Stock twin scroll hot side and center section with GARRETT 30R cold side. The turbo put my car at 360RWHP at 18psi. The internals later gave out and the impeller became out of balance and contacted the cold side housing. Minor damage to the fins (metal rolled over/scuffed). Obviously there will be an excess clearence between the impeller and housing, but im wondering if it is worth rebuilding.

I can get the rebuild kit (with same upgraded seals as before) for around $150. Balancing last i knew was around $40.

I've toyed with the idea of boosting my E30 with this turbo, but havent decided yet if it is even worth the time/money.

well either way, doesn't this mean you need to get either a new compressor wheel and fuck with the compressor housing?

The housing in just fine, minor scratch. Its the fins on the impeller that I'm not sure about. I can file the fins and make everything smooth again, but im just not sure if its worth doing. Just wondering if anyone has encountered the same situation.

Just remember to think about the balance of those fins that are spinning around 100k rpms.

You need a new compressor wheel.

I know the RX-7 can consume a lot of air but i'd try to find a compressor map to make sure it will suit your boost requirements for an m20
