    Turbo kits?

Hey guys, I was wondering if you knew a place to buy a turbo kit for a M20.. I'm looking for something to save up for and have a little fun with. I was thinking the eBay kits are prolly junk but didn't know.. Just need someone with experience on the eBay kit or any kit in general. I posted this in the wrong section and can't figure out how to delete it.. Sorry guys -___-

There is a thing called Google that is amazing. All you do is type in what your looking for and it tells you where to find it!!!
There is also a search function on R3V along with a sub forum for topics concerning turbos and/or superchargers.

Now that Im done letting you know whats up, Ill help out a bit. Ebay turbo kits are junk.

All that from Google and I am sure there is more.

    Cheers!

eBay kit can work. There are some things I wouldn't use however.

May I also recommend buying, and reading this before you ask anymore questions about turbos.

Sure it can, but for how long? Why waist your money and time?
There is lost of cheap shit you can put on your car, but why spend your hard earned money on cheap rip off bull shit made in China?
Save up some money and do it right the first time. Maybe even support a US buisnes that support us in tern.

Read that book. You might even decide youd like to put together your own kit. Have fun and dont buy crap that will brake and maybe even cause other expensive parts of your car to brake.
Oh and if you keep an eye out there are also members who sell their complete or partial turbo kits here on R3V. Those are usually good deals for first time turbo guys.
              Cheers! ;)

Some of us don't have the money for a 1k manifold. As much as I would love to support US based companies I just don't have the money for it.

Like I said, some of the things I would use, i.e: the intercooler + couplers and clamps, the manifold assuming it fits, some of the BOV's & wastegates are actually pretty decent. Some guys have good luck with the turbos too. I ran an ebay turbo on my last build and had no issues with it for a year +. This time around I went with a Holset because they can be had for pretty cheap. I don't have the coin for a brand new Garrett or similar.

S5x swap, its fraction of the cost if thats an issue.

I still dont think you need to spend a grand on a manifold. You can buy a second hand manifold from a forum member on an e30 forum which there are a few of, or go with a cheaper option made by a more local company. I know that there are adapter kits that let you use your existing exhaust manifolds that run cheaper then a whole new manifold.
Even if you dont make a lot of money, which I dont, you can still save until you have enough money for the right parts, or be a bit resourceful and find good second hand parts.
Car parts are an investment in your car. There is no point in buy a cheap part that will brake and will have to be bought twice. No money saved there. A bad part can even effect other parts on your car which can get expensive fast.
If you spend some time learning about turbos and how the systems work, you might even be able to save some money by piecing together your own kit by sourcing all the parts your self.
Upgrading your car is not always about who has the larger pockets. A lot of it is about being smart, saving your money for the right part at the right time, and keeping your eye out for deals on forums and online shops. Dont rush shit.
                    Thats my .02

Normally i would agree, buy good once and be done with it but as Jay said besides ebay there is NO cheap good manifold alternative.

                      Ebay manifold paid 130$

Anything else your looking at 1k easy, will be be better? Yes, especially if twin scroll...but if you dont have the cash for it, its hard to justify.

Now the last ebay manifold lasted 20k? If this one lasts 20k id be just as happy to spend another 130$ and buy another one, but honestly after 20k id probably want to go s5x swap and turbo that.

You could go with an ebay intercooler, they arent horrible. The turbo should be brand name (though again ebay turbo lasted 20k and still was going just had developed some shaft play) but i (like jay) went Holset, inexpensive and good.

Dont get a ebay wastegate or BOV, stick with brand name (i LOVE Tial)

                      And go stand alone (megasquirt)

If your ever in the Tri state area your more then welcome to take a look at my track rat. Right now were at 330whp at 14psi ....need to go for a retune and get her up to over 400whp and 20psi. Just dont feel like spending money and breaking anything, especially when shes been running so well.
