I can't think of anything besides weight and heat dissipation opposed to iron.
I *think* alusil actually wears better than the iron block bores too. I'll probably wind up boosting my 540 at some point which has an aluminum block, but it will be low boost. I'm not against boosted aluminum blocks, just high hp aluminum blocks.

So you guys are saying 335i motors are crap?

Thanks you guys for the info.
You don't have to. There are obd2 tuning solutions already.
Go bathe in bfc's forced induction section.

m20 is a capable motor, however it sounds like the m52 and m30s can be absolute monsters.

    Snorted soda, thanks lol.

Another one for m52+boost. Or a basic m30b35+boost is a total monster on stock internals/MLS ARP. Just see what Good & Tight does with an M30. Tons cheaper than a m52 to get and reseal.

exactly what i was going to say.. boosted m20b2x>5 for the win

This is awesome!!! That is kinda umm insane!
But honestly where can you drive around with 630 hp?! Lol. That's so much! I'm not saying it won't be the funnest thing you have driven.. But other then a strip where can you hit full boost?

I think now a days with the flood of m50s everywhere it would be best to use them.
m20 imo if you're REEALLY doing it on a budget. Either way 300hp+ is a given.
