You don't have to. There are obd2 tuning solutions already.
Go bathe in bfc's forced induction section.Leave a comment:

I'd be scared to have a built aluminum block for boost, but I just want to know if there is plus side to it assuming everything is 100% on point.
I can't think of anything besides weight and heat dissipation opposed to iron.Leave a comment:

M52tu any good? I hear good things about boring out the stock holes and using supra hardware.Leave a comment:

I will look into the m52, but i dont like the sound of it being a obd2 n having to put it back to 1:( although... if it has forged internals, then there would be no point of building it! Which that is a plus on the $$$$ side:)
Thanks you guys for the info.Leave a comment:

m20 is a capable motor, however it sounds like the m52 and m30s can be absolute monsters.Leave a comment:

This is awesome!!! That is kinda umm insane!the m54 is terrible for beating on. The block needs to be time-serted for studs and the oil pumps have a habit of shearing when the motor sees extended high rpm use. The M52 is the way to go - it has forged internals and will take a LOT of boost. Card counter was making over 600 whp before his stock bottom end blew up at around 680 whp iirc. The M52 is the best stock NA BMW I6 for boost.
"head gasket and studs and boost away.Ran 25-30psi almost 2 years. Was running 635 whp. We tried the 700whp mark but the rods could not take it."
But honestly where can you drive around with 630 hp?! Lol. That's so much! I'm not saying it won't be the funnest thing you have driven.. But other then a strip where can you hit full boost?Leave a comment:

I think now a days with the flood of m50s everywhere it would be best to use them.
m20 imo if you're REEALLY doing it on a budget. Either way 300hp+ is a given.Leave a comment:
