Novice turbo question / need help finding something that works

Sup bros, so I'm not sure if I'm going full retard or what but I'm having trouble finding a turbo for the manifold I just bought. Not super knowledgeable about different types/brands of turbos, though I can assume the typical browser of this subforum is. Here's pretty much what I'm looking for (bold items are the real important bits for me, this is just what I copied off some other dude's thread)

    Intake: 3 inch
    Inlet: 2 inch
    Compressor trim: .60ar
    Compressor Wheel diameter: 58.40 /68.00
    Turbine Wheel diameter: 64.20/73.20
    Exhaust Trim: .69ar
    Turbine flange type:T4 flange
Down pipe flange type: 4 bolt

pictured with my manifold/downpipe, not my car though

Don't know if I'm just not looking in the right places or what, but goddamn if the only ones I can find are $150 ebay specials. Not particularly into hand grenades in my engine bay

The only other non-ebay ones I can find in that trim/outlet-flange-style are T3's (which won't work for obvious reasons) and big ass 80-100ar turbos (obviously not the trim I want, but has a t4 housing with a 4 bolt outlet).

So is V-band pretty much the way to go now? Is this what all the cool kids are doing? Because I can find vband turbos that fit these specs all over the place. Guess it won't be too hard to cut the current flange off and weld a vband on that sucker.

On a different note, what's a good brand to go with? I'm really not looking to spend more than a grand on the turbo (i.e. a journal unit from turbonetics), though if there's a reputable off-brand company out there and I can get something for half the price, I'm OK with that.

Also, if you guys have better suggestions as to what size turbo I should get I'm all ears. It's a 5.0 with heads and a cam, full roller, nothing else is too special. This is in a stripped e30, so my guess is 2800lbs or so. I usually don't wind it past 6500rpms. I'd like to spool relatively early and I also don't want to make too much power - anything over 500 and these stock 5.0 blocks tend to split down the middle.

Vband is just a lot easier and pretty much what all name brands are using now.

You can get a PTE 6262 in all the specs you are wanting. It'll spool quick, make good power, and is one of the best brands IMO. It'll cost around 1,080 to get one too.

Motherfucker, looks like the ebay ad lied about the turbo flange... measures about 2"x2.7". I've seen T3 turbos with these specs, but everything I've read says that a t3 housing is way too small for a single setup on a 5.0. Should I cut the flange off and weld a t4 flange on there? Not enough room under the hood to rock one of those adapters.

Garrett, Borg Warner, Holset, Precision, and Turbonetics all make good turbos. to find sizes of what you want check atpturbo.com or agpturbo.com, but you are going to have a hard time finding a sub $500 quality turbo unless you go with a used hx35 or similar.

This might be a decent turbo for your needs with low boost: http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...egory_Code=TBN

        What are your power goals?
What will you use this car for?
        What is your target psi?

If you want to learn about turbos and build a turbo system that performs how you want it to I would suggest reading "Street Turbocharging" by Mark Warner. I'm reading it right now and it has been very useful in planning my turbo build.

Power goals: more than what I have currently (280-320) but definitely under 500. That's when these blocks start to split

Car will be used on the street and track

No target psi. More like I want it to be low as hell. I'm hoping if I leave the wastegate wide open I won't see more than 5-8psi.

Why not just throw some nice NA cams in it with an intake, exhaust and tune? that would be a hell of a lot easier then fuckin around with a V8 single turbo setup imo

edit: guess you already did that...

If you could find an HX35 or similar it would probably work fine, just use a larger waste gate so you don't get boost creep. You should really do research on your own and figure out what will work for what you want. Best place to start is calculate the volumetric flow rate of the engine at various RPMs and then plot those points on a compressor map. Try to find a turbo that gives you the most efficiency across the rpm range and then pick your turbine housing.

Ebay turbos are a huge hit and miss, I highly recommend you avoid them.

Ok so it looks like I jumped the gun on the T3 thing, just measured the bolt holes instead, it is a t4 flange, but the exhaust inlet hole is undersized... guess I can port it out or something to the full 3" (currently 2.7" or so)

Maybe I'll look into getting a holset? I don't know. What I do know is that there is some kind of used/rebuilt turbo/holset warehouse somewhere in MD, think it's within an hour from my house. Just can't remember the name of the place, think it's in Frederick. I'm sure they'll have some good info AND I'll be able to pick up the turbo they recommend right there.

**edit - it's Goldfarb in Rockville... close enough :)
