HELP! trying to turbo my M42

I have a E30 318is and am trying to turbo it. I've searched online for turbo kits but haven't come up with a lot. I decided to build my own turbo set up so I can customize it to what I want. But I am having trouble finding some pieces like the piping. If I bought the piping for an e30 325i turbo would it work on my 318is? Has anyone else ran into this problem? Is building your own turbo set up a big under taking? Also, any recommendations for a turbo manifold?

    Thank you

Cool more M42 turbo people! There aren't a whole lot of kits out for our engine as far as bolt on turbo kits, I know Jakeb on here makes a kit that includes EVERYTHING you'll need, including a tune.

Here's a link to somebody trying to sell one of these kits at the moment:

I went the route of piecing together my own kit and I am happier with what I have so far vs. a bolt on kit. I mean I also have a completely rebuilt engine with lower compression and blah blah blah.

The 325i intercooler stuff might work but not 100% guaranteed to fit. And personally I didn't even bother trying. For my intercooler piping I used this website to piece my own stuff together.
Your source for Intercooler Pipe Fabrication Parts

...Also just something to add I cut some pipes and welded them the way I wanted.

There are people who can make you a manifold, this guy Otis makes awesome manifolds, I personally wish I bought one of his

OR you can buy an ebay M50 manifold and get two cylinders cut off and modified to fit your m42. I have one I bought from a fellow member on here, so it was already modified.

Trying to piece your own turbo setup for the M42 is a pretty big task to take on, but not impossible. There's a lot to consider when diving into it which I didn't even know of when I decided to turbo my car. hopefully I answered your questions! And if you need any other help or have any other questions post them here

OP - You really should talk to JakeB (classicsdaily.net) ... he's the one selling the kits. Really good resource for turbo stuff.

Check out one of his builds: http://www.classicdaily.net/category/past/turbom42/

I used an intercooler I bought from a local with a 240sx, I made a custom bracket to hold it in place and for my intercooler piping I used siliconeintakes.com then modified anything that wasn't fitting correctly.
