    Surface rust on cylinder bores?

I just started looking over the 3 m20 blocks I have in the garage to decide which to use for my 2.7 build. The block I found to be in the best shape is from my 88 325is. But 4 of the 6 cylinder bores have a few minor spots of surface rust. The pistons still slid freely out. So I'm wondering if honing the block will remove this minor rust or if I should look for a different block.

Honing will remove it easily. You can probably just use a rag to wipe it off.

Yea, if the pistons still move freely, you should be fine.

Cool, I figured it wouldn't be a problem but wanted to make sure. It's nice having 2 complete m20's laying around and 3 short blocks :finger: The only items I have to buy for the stroker are the pistons, then just the gaskets, rings, bearings etc....
