If you're not worried about keeping the stock motor, do a DOHC swap then turbo that.

Like e9nine said, Mike McCoy is the man to talk to in Atlanta about turbos. My car is at his shop right now.
    Where is his shop?

Cartech quotes $3,895 for their turbo system rated at 275hp out of a 2.7l. As far as bang for your buck 4grand puts you in s50/52 territory, with the tractability and dependability of a factory built NA motor albeit at slightly less power. If you want to not worry about your motor this is IMHO the best option. You also have fewer places oil, coolant, and vacuum leaks can develop. On top of that you don't have to worry whether you've set your spark advance and boost conservative enough not to hole a piston when you show up to a track day in August.

damm for 4k you can have a built engine for massive boost, A bad ass turbo and related systems and killer engine management. Which would take nearly all of the all of the risk out of that(if you are carefull and take time to tune it corectly).

EG what I have goten around for my build up
        M21 (diesel crank) $145 ebay
Brand new HX40 16cm twin scroll t3 housing $550 ebay
Tube header (crappy chinise knock off but enough to get started )$200 ebay
        custom crower rods $1100
        weisco pistons $600
copper head gasket $135 (allthough I may get a MLS befoe I build the engine)
Engine management $1650 (not gonna say what but its bad ass)
wrist pins, bearings, gaskets, rings, new oli pump, fuel pump hoses and general crap $800
well 4580 is where I am at now and still have a few things to collect and some machine work to get done so I will be about 5k + a little into it by the time its running But you dont have to go with the crower's (good set of I rods will work) and management dose not have to that much either, megsquirt will work very well for about 600 bucks

Just My 2 cents but the off the shelf systems just dont have the bang for what you are spending for them. You are paying for all the R&D and not getting nearly as much bang for the buck. Do some research and put togeather a system that will do what what you want it too. Then you always have the room to grow and change things as you see fit or want.
