Alright so here is the situation i have a chance to snag a 97 m3 S52 with 80,000ish miles for DIRT cheap it is from my cousins car when he wrecked T-boned in the rear quarter spun around a lot destroyed back end. Luckily he is fine but he is now into Audi's so no need for bmw parts for him. Anyways, My question is not involving the swap of the s52, there is a ton of info already on this board and everywhere for that. My question lies in the fact that the money i save from this could be put into other uses. Also known as a turbo'd s52 monster i was wondering if this has been done yet and or if there is physically enough room for everything involved also what would be the perspective cost on all the turbo necessities.

But it is possible. fabrication is not that big of an issue for me. I don't have a problem with creating custom parts. but i do have issues with removing half of the fender in order to make things fit. In that case I will probably be top mounting it. Are there any heating issues with a turbo being up so high in the engine bay.
So about how much would a project like that cost?
Also is 8-12 pounds too much to be running on an s52 with a stock bottom end?sigpic

8psi should be ok. friend built a "ebay" kit for right around 2500 for his e30m52. had it bottom mounted (fabbed motor mount). over boosted it and now its out BUT while it ran it was running good. word to the wise, dont use ebay turbo parts. id go to bimmerforums and consult the FI guys over there, they are the kings at this stuff.

I believe that creating a turbo system for an S52 is not nearly as cost effective or easy a turbo project on an M20...the S52 has the OBDII ECU which apparently is hard to work around without expensive, name brand turbo systems offered by Active Autowerks etc. I may be mistaken though1991 325ix <<sold

Its been done quite a few times before. Checked out the Forced Induction forum on www.bimmerforums.com and do some reading.
I know that at least the bottom-mount Spa manifold fits, but I wouldn't be surprised if others did as well. Obviously the charge pipes will all need to be custom fabbed.
I think I've said this about 47 times in the last 6 months, but the OBD2 dme has been cracked and its not a bad option even with F/I. NickG at Technique Tuning is the guy to talk to. Other proven options are Megasquirt, TEC3R, Greddy Emanage, and AEM.
8-12psi can be done on a stock S52, depending on turbo size and fuel octane.'91 318is
