    eta bottom ends? for turbos?

Hey I've looked around and I cant really find a straight answer...
well I'm going to be getting back into e30s, and I was thinking about building a turbo motor in my garage...

how strong is the bottom end of an eta motor?
then have an I head on it and have the turbo set up like that?

I would put new rings and all that in it and such but I dont know just how strong the bottom end is

the lower compression ratio would be great with the extra boost and 2.7 is better than the 2.5;)

A straight answer to a not so straight question.
    "how strong?"

    Hmm, Strong enough? :/

I mean when you start getting into high reving turbo motors some bottom ends throw rods and such
I was wondering if the eta bottom end could take the power, and the revs

The m20 bottom end (eta or i) is good for 450+hp.

The eta bottom end is fine with revving high. It's the head that is the restriction.

An eta bottom end + i top end will get you 2.7L engine with 8.3:1 compression ratio. Good solid engine for boost.

man, another one.... dude, i don't wanna be a dick but you gotta read around here and e30tech. this question is so common, and you'll find everything that you want to know. i also thought about turbo'n my eta and found the answer to just about every question from reading other peoples build threads/ questions/ etc.

"Super eta" does not refer to an eta bottom end with an "i" head (at least not how you're imagining). The super-eta is an engine that came in the 1988 m20b27 powered cars (often badged just 325). They had different pistons than the previous eta engine and slightly more power (up 6hp).

                  From strictlyeta.net:
In order to meet federal emissions standards in it's final year of production, the '88 325 receives a 325i cylinder head, exhaust system, and engine management control with self-diagnostic capabilities (Motronic 1.1) as well as special pistons, (lowering compression slightly to 8.8:1), a slightly larger intake manifold and a revised valve cover. These changes bump up the eta's power rating slightly (to 127) and a 6000 RPM tachometer is fitted. The cooling system is overhauled and the expansion tank is shifted to the driver side. A new oil dipstick and fuel cap are used, and the fuel tank is enlarged to 16.5 gallons.
But yea, search. All these questions have been answered.
