    how do i reset the distributor?

    Rotate cyl# 1 to TDC, move the distributor until the rotor points to a small notch on distributor base. If the rotor points 180 deg off the notch just rotate engine 360 degrees and move the distributor as described earlier.

    Now you are roughly set, next step is the timing lamp, but IIRC U.s.spec engine has different settings than euro ones that I'm used to.
    Current:

    BMW 320i 2d 2.0 m20 -88
    BMW 325i Cabriolet 2.5 m50 -88
    BMW 316i touring 1.6 m40 -90
    BMW 320i 4d 2,2 m54 -01

        yup just move the rotor

          Rotate cranckshaft untill the cyl 1 reaches the TDC.
          Current:

            so i rotated the crank to tdc turned the rotor to the mark and i dropped it in ? em i good to go?

              what is a good way to find tdc? i put a screwdriver in the hole and gave that my best shot, but its still backfiring which i assume means its too far advanced?
