Is this normal?

MY 84 318i seems to be running great....just 1 thing I notice when I push down the clutch pedal the engine drops down to about 1500 RPM then takes a few seconds to settle to the idle speed..is this normal?

My 318i and 325e both do that. I've tried cleaning the ICV and adjusting the TPS. I assumed it was some kind of a digital dashpot. However, it could be your distributor, I've had them both hold a highish idle after a long drive. I've read the weights in the distributor can get hung up on the way back down to idle. If the timing advance is still holding, your idle will be higher and a bit rough. Anyone else have any thoughts regarding that?

Thanks for the response...my idle and running are not rough or in anyway bad just a slight hang at 1400rpms. I kind of remember that back in the early 80s car builders used that hang to acheive emissions compliance...It isnt really a big deal but just wondered if that is the way 318s run. Thanks again.
