Per the Bentley, it's called the idle stabilization relay, and RealOEM has it as a changeover relay (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...40&hg=12&fg=35 part #2). It's the largest relay in the set of 3 covered in plastic on the drivers side under the hood.
it makes crackling noises on it's own sometimes...i tapped on it when the car was running and it started crackling too. Note: I noticed it when the ignition was simply switched to "on" and engine off, but appears it can happen while the engine on.
Could this be the cause of the car bucking/losing power intermittently while driving and then going away after jamming the gas pedal down and revving bringing the RPMs up while moving?
