    Loud fuel pump

My external fuel pump is very loud. It isnt loose but when I put my hand on it I can feel it buzzing along. It makes so much noise I can here it in the car with the radio on. So I replaced it and still have the same noise.... a combo of a flushing fluid sound and a humming. I have solved almost every problem on this car but this is making me nuts. Suggestions...thoughts? Thanks

Your fuel pump is on its last leg. Replace your fuel filter and check your fuel pressure at engine bay.

Could the pump be badly placed or something making it touch the tank wall or something and spreading vibrations/sound?

                fuel pump

I had similar problem, turns out the transfer pump in the tank was no good, so the external pump was sucking air (starving for fuel). Mine is an 84 318. Hope that helps.

How much did you pay? Do you know the part number? Maybe 16 14 1 178 751?

Changing the fuel filter helped a bit quieting down the pump.
Not a lot of improvement but definitely less noise.

My 84 was doing the same and it all was the fuel inlet to the pump was getting clogged. On that fuel inlet nipple on the pump it has a tiny micro filter screen right at the end of nipple, all I did was clean that and no more noisy pump. Cus honestly a loud fuel pump is real annoying.

Just drive at higher RPM's to drown out the noise, haha. Just kidding, my fuel pumps are quiet, but they are both new, along with the filter and FPR

LOL, higher RPM always fixes any kind of engine noise . As long as you don't have a stock exhaust hehe, cus that makes you look like a retard. :ohsnap:
