Does anyone know how to bypass the factory afm? Is there a way to rewire it so you can keep it plugged in, but not have it hooked up to the intake? I have done a few mods to it, but that is what is holding me up now. Any help or suggestions will be awesome. thanks, Chris

are you referring to the flappy door thingy at the entrance of your intake tract (after airbox)?? if so...you kinda need that lol
it meters the the airflow so that your engine will run properly. removing it will immobilize your engine. only way to get rid of it is to go maf/map.
if you are referring to the idle control valve, you can easily remove that and plug the holes. At the same time you have to prop your throttle open to allow the engine to idle. You will have issues with cold start but it will go away once warmed up. If you would like more info on this just search idle control valve removal etc etc.?

Yeah the one with the flappy door basically. I was just wondering if there was a to mod it for more air flow. I looked into a map conversion for it, but the oldest they went was an 86 m10. I know there's one year difference, but that conversion for an 86 do you think it will work on my 85? cus there shouldn't be any difference right?sigpic

you might try something like SAFC, but you'd have to put the AFM in a bigger housing to flow more. Megasquirt might be another option. It depends which way you want to go with it.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige

I'm not sure on what safc is. But when you say bigger housing are talking like the Porsche 944 and others from the early 80's when those things were being used?
