    m10 transmission

    is the transmission for a 1984 318i the getrag 240? i just bought a 318i and the transmission is dead.

      i have one, but its been out side for allmost a year and half. shipping would be a pain. not sure how good it is anymore.

              as i understand the bell housings are different
              '84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige
              NA: 93whp/90ftlbs, MS2E w/ LC, 2-Step
              Turbo: 221whp/214ftlbs, MS3x flex @ 17psi

                Yes they are different, the m10 engines in 84 and 85 had a getrag 240. 86 and newer up to like the mid 90's had a getrag 260, 260/5 and 260/6, these transmission were used in both 4 and 6cyl cars.

                  e30 m10s had getrag 240. e30 m40/m42s had getrag 240 (with different bell housing) e30 m20s had getrag 260 (etas had holes in the bell housing. some had larger output flange which used larger guibo) 260/5-6 were used in e28/e24.
