The annoying high Idle (Yes, I've searched)

    Hello,
I'm new to R3V but not to BMW or forums in general. My 1985 318i restoration is into its second year, and I have still not solved this problem: The car idles around 1800 - 2000. I have replaced all of the vacuum hoses, and have cleaned the ICV with carb cleaner, throttle body cleaner, and soaked it in super clean for
4 hours. The ICV passes when I apply 12 volts to it. What is wrong? I'm hoping someone here knows, as I have already tried Bimmerforums.
    Thank you

Also AFM, timing, oil dipstick seal, oil filler cap seal, valve cover gasket, ICV adjustment... the Bentley gives a long list. You may have searched but you have by no means tried all the solutions. Grab the Bentley and a multimeter and get to checking!

Does your idle drop after unplugging the ICV?

Its time to put a REAL motor in it.

When unplugging the ICV, it goes up to 3000.

You Have to unplug the ICV block both holes that were originally from it and then Throw a wire in the little plug. Then you need to just adjust your idle screw<(well i don't know if it qualifies as that) and bam! Worked for me, my car starts up at about 1000-1100 and idles at like 700-800 which is just fine for me.

When you say to block both holes, what exactly am I blocking? Also, do I put the wire between the plug going to the ICV (I'm assuming)? Sorry to sound very Noob-ish (even though I am here, but not to e30's).

If youre doing an ICV delete you have to block the two hoses going to the icv with some sort of cap, (i just found random ones that fit). And yes jump the connector going to the icv also.

the screw on the TB is a throttle stop. and you only need to cap 1, but the other will let contaminates get past the air filter. one actually goes to the intake manifold, obviously.

I don't know why you would jumper the connector... is it gonna throw a CEL? LOL edit: yeah, isn't that causing a short? don't do it unless you have some load there. at least a resistor.

I feel really stupid asking this, but where is this screw you are all talking about? I still can not find it, and if it helps, I have an 85 318i, not an 84 if that makes any difference.
