    M10 Cam options

    Dear awesome forum,

Im Currently building a NA m10 (yes i know that turbo will be more HP but i just think it would be cool) and i was wondering how big of a difference a Schrick 292 would be versus a 304. I still want low end torque but are the gains of the 304 worth it? or is the 292 a better over all street cam?

Btw I have a 84 318i and i plan to have it as a fun car and AutoX (i have a separate Daily)

    Thanks!

Check VAC Motorpsorts, I'm sure they'll have some.

Most of the gain coming from the 304 as compared to the 292 is typically on the very high end. For street car I'd personally run a 292 with uprated single valvesprings. If you go with a 304 you'd probably want to start considering dual springs

..or just buy the springs tha Dr. Schrick catalogue recommends with the cam. If I'm not mistaken the springs that they offer are the same for 284->304 cams.
People who've used the 304 say it doesn't destroy drivability , but ofcoure that's subjective. I'm settling for a 292 , should be good for ~160 hp with a >2000cc bottom end and everything else done properly. I'm overly interested in drivability so I got a 262CR transmission , for less "rev drop" (if that's the correct term..) , to keep the engine "on cam" when shifting.

Another question is , will you be able to rev it hard enough and get enough compression to benefit from a 304 ?

Deadskittles : Now my english isn't all that good but by AutoX you mean some version of auto-slalom? NA M10 isn't such a bad choise.. I'd imagine that instant throttle response and a light front end (for quick steering response) are required.

Okay, Sounds like 292 is a better cam for me because I don't like to lose a lot of torque. And Petrol head i believe that we are talking about the same thing its just referred to as Autocross over here in the states vs slalom in Europe etc.
