    Torque specs

    Dear Forum,

I recently tore apart my engine to throw in the 2.0 crank before i boost it. However i could not find any torque specs for the 5 pieces that hold the crank to the block. Yes i have searched and i have the Bentley manual and my friend even took a look and couldn't find them. Just guessing i tightened the 10 bolts to 50 ft lbs which seemed loose to me but i couldn't even spin the crank. Anybody know those specs? and if the crank just needs to be turned a few times or what?

    Thanks

It sounds like you are talking about the main bearing caps. There is a torque spec for those bolts but I don't have a reference handy to look it it. But the torque on the bolts won't affect turning the crank. If the crank won't turn, it is binding on the bearings. They could be the wrong size for the crank or there could be mis-assembly of the caps/bearings.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

bently says 58-63 Nm or 43-46 ft lb although it does say "Main bearing cap (nuts)". The older BMW workshop manual I have access to says 58-63 Nm or 42-45 ft lb. If you cannot rotate the crank, there's a problem. Check the main caps have not been switched on assembly. Also loosen the bolts main cap by main cap to if it is just one binding. Did you plastigauge the journals?
