    drivetrain for turbo project

I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to buy my buddy's drivetrain, i could get it for $600 or less. the engine is ok but has 200k, I'm going to rebuild what ever could use rebuilding. also reverse is missing from his five speed. is this project even worth it? I'm doing it for the authenticity, weight and it would be able to reach my goal for power.

Im sure you can do better then 600 for a 318 drive train with 200k. That tranny will need to be rebuilt and i'm sure you will want to do the same with the m10. Whats your power goal?

For the m10...$300 at most and the tranny has no reverse so it will need a rebuild and is prob worth 100 at the most. If you want piece of mind rebuild that one or buy a good used one for around 200.

If you can do all the work yourself then it's not too bad, but buying a tranny with known problems and taking it to a shop isn't the most economical idea.

What's the diff ratio? A lot of times turbo guys want longer gears, so going with a stock ratio may not be worth it for you to buy.

If you've got any m10 parts you wanna unload let me know. I'm up in tacoma and could use a spare distributor, ecu, and some sensors.

I always get this backwards on what exactly lower gears and higher gears, but you're gonna want something with a lower ratio. Keep in mind this is just from observation, not expereince, but I see the m20 turbo guys trying to find 2.93's and 3.25's. You also have the option of using taller tires to compensate for the ratio. Start doing research, the info's out there.

id get a lsd u have a 4.10 open right now. 3.73 lsd i imagine would be good for turbo.

Whatever you do, just remember it's a m10, so when out of boost, it will still be gutless. Putting a longer geared rear diff will only exaggerate that aspect.

                      ^^+1

Guys who put 2.93 diffs in a m20 turbo are mostly highway racers. For the m10 you wanna keep it screaming and a 4.10 will suit it nicely. Btw diff ratios should be sorted out later in the build. Worry about the motor, tuning and turbo first.

^^ that's true. I just said 3.73 so out of boost just driving in town he won't be wasting gas I mean once ur in boost ur still gonna gonna go but just driving around id want a little longer gear then a 4.10 in there. I had a 3.91 in my old car and I was in 3rd gear in parking lots Haha got kind of annoying.
