    Injector Upgrade

Hey forum! I just got some new injectors for my M10 because I will soon embark on a turbo project. However i was wondering, If i put these 19# injectors in (correct impedence) before i turbo, the car wont run rich correct? The ECU should correct for the size of the injectors. Am i right?

    Thanks!

Unless you get a chip it will run rich

      Can't chip L-Jet
Why bother with 19lb injectors if you are gonna go turbo? You will need larger injectors anyways

Alright. And the reason I went with that low poundage is because i planned on running a very low boost for DD until i got increased funds to continue.

So you plan to boost without (proper) engine management?

Essentially yes. I plan to run a wideband and start to see when L-jet will hit its max and start to lean out. Then i plan to switch over to MS.

Detonation will probably be a problem along with leaning out. you gonna run C16 in it? Otherwise you may end up buying a new engine along with your MS.

You're concerned about knocking? I would imagine that it would lean out much sooner than it would pre-detonate because of octane. Besides when i reach the point when it leans out i plan to run a boost level lower than that with a safety margin. And yes i understand that it will be a very small amount of boost but the anythings better than stock...

I sure hope this isn't your daily. If it's not...go for it. Should be fun for awhile

I'm not sure if he has a thread here on r3v, but on e30tech there is a guy going by hsvturbo that has a pretty gnarkill turbo system with l-jet. It could be from all the meth injection, or maybe he's got some piggyback, I don't know. But you might try reading up on his thread and maybe pm him for some info.

If you read his thread, you will find that he has another 3 or 4 injectors on the charge pipe with boost pressure sensors that kick them on. So you figure he is running 7-8 fuel injectors, mixed with the large amounts of methanol. He has also replaced his head gasket 2 or 3 times due to tuning issues (no major issues as of yet though)

Please don't say things like pre-detonate. the issue is confusing for many, and mixing terms like pre-ignition and detonation only serves to further muddle the issue.

I took a look at that link, and OMG wow. injectors spraying at the opposite wall of the pipe? that must be fun to "tune". Proves he's got a brain; running e85... Still think the "doesn't need an intercooler" is a little far fetched. the 2002 turbo should've had one. just because it didn't doesn't mean it was a good idea.

Sorry for the confusion. And no this is not my DD which is why i like to mess around with it. Very interesting link too...

What M10 are you running? if you have one with an old school system (I don't recall if L-jet runs ignition or just fuel), you can manually pull timing to save your engine, otherwise be warned. If you were going to try running e85 without telling the computer, you probably want 21-22# injectors at a minimum.

Its from an 84 318i. And i would imagine its just fuel because of the distributor? By no means am I an expert so correct me if im wrong.
