I have no idea if the diff on it is stock or not, only that I have hit over 40mph in 1st gear and over 70mph in 2nd gear. I have never hit the rev limiter and since the tach doesn't work I back off when it really screams. 70mph in 2nd gear doesn't seem right though. Are my ratios probably messed up or is this pretty normal?

It's an 84. Speedo was confirmed by gps. Off by 1 or 2 mph, I'm guessing due to bigger wheels that were on the car when I bought it. I don't think it would make that much of a difference though. I'm positive the speedo was past 70 though. Didn't believe it myself so I did it again to be sure. Based on the rest of the car, I wouldn't be surprised if the PO took a diff off a 6cylinder without knowing the difference. I'm not too worried about it since I'm planning on swapping in a 4.10 and rear discs from my m42 parts car, just curious about it.What it feels like owning an e30:

Thanks guys. Right now my 91 318is project is the main priority but it is good to finally know why my car felt soooo sluggish through the gears. I figured eh, its an m10 and its probably just trashed. As far as the 4.10 diff, I may just throw it on there until I can find/afford a 3.64 or 3.91. Car is hardly being driven so it isn't a huge issue. What it feels like owning an e30:
