Neeed Help! Having starting issue.

I have a 318I that has been setting for sometime. I have changed the dist cap, rotor button, coil pickup, and ignition switch. The car turns over fine.Just will not crank. The strange thing is when you move to the off position it fires. I left the switch on the coil got warm.
Friends and I did the test that Bentley Manual everything checked out right. The car is getting fuel and air. The fire comes when you turn the car off.
I'm running out of options please help. would like to drive it.

Have you checked that youre getting spark?

Do you have the coil hooked up correctly? If it's getting hot it's very possible you have it hooked up backwards.
