    85 318i, starts but won't idle

Hey my m10 was running fine just all of sudden won't idle anymore. Vacuum seems fine, fuel pumps fine, there no blockage, the timing is out by a fair but but when I tried to adjust it, it would just stalk whenever I got close to it being right, even with someone pumping the accelerator, pretty stumped

Thinking the timing chain may have have slipped

Check timing! Tune up? New plugs, wires, cap and rotor? Fuel filter clogged? Check off these cheap things before going cray~

Does it stay running if you keep your foot on the throttle? Check the easy/cheap stuff before jumping into the timing chain.

Could be the idle control module, the icv, tps sensor. If you don't have the Bentley manual I would get it and start there.

Turned out to be the afm, thanks for the responses though guys!

Did you repair/clean it or get a new one?

Just turned it a few clicks. Update is that she stopped running tonight mid drive. Raa couldn't et it going either. It's got spark, fuel, no exhaust blockage, thinking it's either the ignition timing or something seriously wrong with the afm or air intake?

Try disconnecting the afm. It should run but might be rough. Also check the fuel pump relay, some people have had intermittent failures that can be temporarily fixed by reseating or tapping on the relay.
