M10 wouldn't start after running out of fuel

Hi guys, I'm having a problem with my 1984 m10 e30. I purchased the car couple months ago and ran it for some time but unfortunately the fuel gauge on it wasn't working and I eventually ran it out of gas. I haven't been able to start the car since then.

Before this happened I had done some work on the fuel system, it has new plugs, cables, fuel filter. I can hear the pump priming when I turn the key but when I try to start it it just won't happen. The starter is turning but the engine wouldn't start.

I also tried push/pull starting the car and it seemed to work at first (rpm go up) but once I put it out of gear it dies.

Help and advice will be greatly appreciated!
