    Tranny/Rear Diff Question

ok, ive searched a lot and came across a few things but no deffinate answers. (in the m42 section)
    i need to know:

-Does a e30 m42 transmission fit the m10 exactly? (as in strate bolt on)
some say its 240 like the m10 others say its 260 (which is the m20) then some say that the m20 tranny can fit the m10 but its just heavier

-Also does all e30 m42 come with the 4.10 diff? (either lsd or non lsd)
i know the m10 had either 3.64 or 3.91 depending on production yrs

            iirc the s14 tranny (265) will fit an m10 (240). The m42 (240) fits the m50's.

all the 91 318's had a 4.10 that I know of. Some were open and some were lsd, not depending on if it was an i or is. It was an option but not standard on the 318is.

                    A 3.91 on a four speed M10 makes for a 4200rpm at 70mph aprox.
Mind you,the ratios are exactly the same as the 5 speed manual.
